Dec 3: Lightbulb Decor

Ah Christmas lights. Every year you take them out of storage, untangle them and go through each string trying to find each burnt out bulb. It’s a time-honored tradition that ranks right up there with shoveling the walks only to have them covered again in a matter of minutes. Here’s a project that recycles your old light bulbs into a new ornament for your tree.

Items Needed:
-Old Christmas light bulb
-Ornament Hook & Wire
-Hot Glue gun
Ribbon
-Various ornaments ex. Mini Pinecones, Beads,Buttons

How to:
1. Take your wire and make a loop. Attach loop to bulb using your hot glue gun. Allow to set.

2. Make a few bows out of your ribbon and select your other decorations. Attach your adornments via the glue gun and allow to set again.

3. Take the ornament loop and attach to wire. Find an empty spot on your tree and fill it in with your new ornament!

Dec 1: Large Zipper Pull Ornament

Today’s project is a 3 step ornament that uses a very large zipper pull that you can find at a nearby craft store.. It’s a simple, straightforward project to start our Advent Calender off with.

Items Needed:
-Large craft zipper pull
Ribbon in Seasonal colours
Assorted Buttons & Ornaments
-Hot Glue Gun

How to:
1. After gathering all items, preheat hot glue gun. Once warmed up add a dollop of glue on the large zipper pull and top off with button/ornament. Repeat as many times as you feel necessary. Allow glue to set.

2. After set, take a piece of ribbon approx. 20cm long and tie a loop around the middle part of the zipper. Gather the rest of ribbon, trim to whatever length you would like and loop around ring. (we used about 40cm before looping).

3. Ta-da! All done. Hang wherever you like to spread Christmas cheer.

Christmas Quilt / Wall Hanging Ideas

Remember in my last post I talked about making your own Christmas quilt? Well maybe you’re not quite that industrious… or maybe you just don’t have that much time. Again, our panels come to the rescue! Actually meant to be wall hangings, they are quite easily transformed by using the coordinating prints, a little creativity and some decorative stitching into an eye-catching quilt (which could still be hung with one of our great quilt hangers – we even have Christmas themed ones. Just take the panel section and add some decorative stitching to highlight certain parts of the scene (optional),use the coordinating prints to quilt around the edges, and add a cozy underside like some of our minkie or fleece. If you want an example of how this is done check out Karen’s Kids Quilt.

This would be a great starter project to share with your family and make your home feel just that much more festive over the holiday season.
